I know, I know. I’ve really hit you over the head with some of these stats, you could recite ’em in your sleep. Right, 1 in between 4 and 5 (it’s about 26.2%) Americans suffer from a mental illness in any given year, one in 17 will have the big SMI, serious mental illness, which leads to major functional impairment.

But sometimes we’re due for some reminders, like recalling that there are more mentally ill persons in our jails and prisons than in our hospitals, partly, one might venture to say, because in 1955 there was one psychiatric bed for every 300 Americans while as of 2005 there was one psychiatric bed for every 3,000 Americans–and the number has continued to dwindle.

And sometimes we [that is the royal ‘we,’ just to clarify] get lucky, in that we’re looking for new information and interesting ways to present it–and a reader comes along and volunteers just that.  Check out the suicide pie chart and see if you don’t find some shockingly high numbers there–and some high dollar amounts when it comes to dealing with the problem.

Don’t pass by the connection between school failure and mental illness, and don’t miss. . .

Wait.  I think I’m getting a little over-enthusiastic.  You can read, right? Especially if it’s in picture form?

Okay–go ahead, venture out on your own and check out the Infographic “Dazed and Confused.”

(I’m right here if you need any help, or failed “pictograph-reading” in your youth.)
